PZ Wilmar, through its new vegetable oil brand, Mamador, has expressed its support for children’s health and education in the country.
The brand supported the Passion Ball 2013, a fundraiser for the children’s charity, United for Kids Foundation in Lagos, where over N8m was realised with corporate sponsors and individuals in support of needy Nigerian children in 2014 and beyond.
According to a statement by PZ Wilmar on Thursday, the programme was aimed at raising funds for United for Kids Foundation’s 2014 children’s health and education, as well as serve as an avenue to honour the corporate sponsors of UKF.
Parents of a three-year old child, Mubarak Adebayo, whose operation in India for a heart condition UKF sponsored in March 2013, won Mamador’s prize of one year supply of Mamador cooking oil in a raffle draw.
The Coordinating Trustee of the United for Kids Foundation, Ms. Temitope Fajingbesi, said the foundation had achieved a lot in its mission to support Nigerian children from less privileged homes through the support of socially responsible organisations.
According to her, UKF has also received funds from corporate organisations including JP Morgan Chase, Renaissance Capital and Diamond Bank as well as funds through charitable donations from individuals, including its founders and trustees.
“UKF intends to mobilise more resources in 2014 for its education programmes that are aimed at increasing school enrolment among children from low-income families.
“The programmes reduce the true cost of school enrolment for children by paying for books, uniforms and other essential items. They also increase the quality of education children receive in public schools by sponsoring teaching training courses,” she said.
According to the Trade Marketing Manager, Mamador Cooking Oil, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Poopola-Dania, Mamador and the United for Kids Foundation have similar missions.
“Mamador is about giving only what is good to Nigerian families and children; what UKF is doing is very similar – giving what is good to underprivileged Nigerian children, who might not have the opportunity to enjoy good things of life,” she said.
