The Nigerian Postal Service, through its Courier Regulatory Department, has reemphasised the need for more collaboration in the courier sub-sector to move it forward.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Senior Assistant Postmaster General, Dr. Simon Emeje, told newsmen in Lagos that NIPOST was considering bringing together all operators in the business to chart a path forward.
Dubbed the 3rd Nigerian Courier Summit with the theme, “Legislations and Courier Entrepreneurship in Nigeria,” the one-day summit will address emergent issues in the Nigerian courier industry, Emeje said.
Commenting on what informed the idea, he said the need to identify the implications, inadequacies and discrepancies in the various legislations on courier operations in Nigeria had remained pressing for a long time.
He said, “We need to work out modalities for conformity with the various legislations on courier operations with international treaties and conventions of the Universal Postal Union, which Nigeria is a signatory.”
On the benefits of the summit, he said that in the end, stakeholders would be able to set modalities for harmonised legal framework for adequate courier regulatory responsibility.
The summit, which is slated for October 28 in Lagos, will also work towards streamlining multiple taxation.
“This will set modalities for harmonisation of various agency policies to ensure a smooth playing field for courier operations in Nigeria,” he added.
