Anambra Guber: Godwin Ezeemo Condemns Assassination Attempt On His Campaign Publicity Director, Okey Nwoke

Frontline politician and governorship candidate of the Progressive Peoples’ Alliance (PPA) in the forthcoming November 16 elections in Anambra State, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, has condemned in unequivocal terms the recent assassination attempt on Mr. Okey Nwoke, Director of Publicity, Godwin Ezeemo Campaign Organisation (GECO).
Mr. Nwoke was attacked at Igboukwu market square in Anambra State on Sunday morning while on his way to attend a function at Mr. Ezeemo’s Umuchu home.
Narrating how he narrowly escaped death at the hands of daredevil killers, Mr. Nwoke told journalists that the killers who drove in a Toyota Camry vehicle sharply overtook him and blocked his Toyota Corolla around the market area while two young men dressed in flowing black robes which concealed their guns quickly pulled out their AK 47 and pointed at him.
According to him, they immediately told each other in their local language, “That’s him! That’s him!” Then they asked him, “Why did you leave the APC? You are the one writing all these nonsense.”
On realising that there was no vehicle behind him, Mr. Nwoke said he quickly engaged the reverse gear and sped back as the gunmen sprayed his car with bullets shattering the windshield, but he miraculously escaped without any bullet wound.
The incident was immediately reported to the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Headquarters in Anambra State. The DPO, who confirmed the incident to journalists, promised to fish out the culprits.
Condemning the assassination attempt, the PPA guber candidate, Mr. Ezeemo, wondered why politicians would be so desperate as to go to the extent of taking people’s lives just to realise their political ambition.
“This desperate and bizarre attempt on the life of Okey Nwoke shows the level we have sunk to as a people. A violent man is the man who has run out of ideas and feels that the only means to his goals is through violence,” Ezeemo said.
He, however, enjoined his supporters and the good people of Anambra State not to be deterred by the incident but to keep faith with hope, trust and diligence in the pursuit to change Anambra for the benefit of all.
Dr. Chukwuemeka Eze, a public affairs analyst and director, Coalition For A Better Anambra, who spoke on the incident, said that the era of political hooliganism was over in Anambra State, noting that the forces of darkness would no longer prevail as the likes of Mr. Godwin Ezeemo have stepped in to redeem Anambra and its people.
