Adeyanju made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He said that the President’s independence anniversary broadcast had once again given hope to Nigerians on the commitment of his administration to satisfy their yearnings and aspirations.

The executive director also acknowledged that the president’s decision to set up a National Dialogue Committee was an indication that Jonathan listened to people’s opinions and contributions on national issues.

“This conference will douse tension in the land and we appeal for equitable representation of youths and civil society organisations in the composition of the committee.

“Nigeria’s existence is a collective responsibility and we all must partner with Mr President to achieve our desired goals.”

Adeyanju cautioned politicians against politicising security challenges for their selfish political gains, saying “Nigeria is a land of opportunities that we all must explore to achieve our potential.”

He urged the President to strengthen democratic institutions such as INEC, the Nigeria Police Force and to ensure full independence of the judiciary.

He called on the National Assembly to enhance its transparency and accountability role through effective law making and oversight functions.

The activist stressed the need for government at all levels to enhance transparency in their dealings in terms of contract awards and the fight against the menace of corruption.

He also urged the Federal Government to reduce high lending rate in banks to encourage entrepreneurs to access loans.

“Government must equally fast track privatisation process in other sectors to boost investment as done in the power sector,” he added. (NAN)
