Mr Giwa was arrested by a team of policemen, on Friday, around 10pm, alongside three others, while relaxing at a Sinaf Suite Hotel located directly opposite Catholic Church Cathedral, Mile Six, Jalingo.

When Sunday Tribune visited Taraba Police State command headquarters on Saturday morning to find out reasons behind the arrest of the media aide, the media aide told newsmen behind the counter where he was kept that, “as a law abiding citizen of the country, I never resisted when the team of police came to arrest me,” saying no reason was given for his sudden arrest.

When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), ASP Joseph Kwaji, told Sunday Tribune on telephone that he was not aware of the arrest, adding that he got the information from journalists in the state.

Meanwhile, as tension and reactions continue to trail the arrest of the governor’s media aide, the immediate past Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in the state, Honourable Emmanuel Bello, in a press release issued on Saturday and made available to Sunday Tribune in Jalingo, has condemned the “torture and continued detention” of the SSA.

He alleged that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Jibril Adeniji, was being used to intimidate aides of the ailing governor, noting that Mr Adeniji was the state’s acting governor’s agent of intimidation.

“Mr S.Y Giwa’s arrest in Jalingo is the latest proof of the return of jungle justice and reign of terror in Taraba,” he added.

He accused the Commissioner of Police of engaging in an illegal meeting with the deputy governor and urged the Inspector General of Police to intervene and call him to order.

Also reacting, the immediate past Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of the state, Mr Timothy Kataps, said the reasons given for arrest of Mr Giwa were unconstitutional.

In his reaction, the Chief Press Secretary to the acting governor, Mr Kefas Sule, said the arrest of Mr Giwa had no link with the office of his boss.
According to him, efforts are on to brief journalists on the arrest.
