Nestle holds healthy kids workshop for children to adopt healthy eating behaviour

Nestle Nigeria on Thursday hosted a healthy kids workshop for teachers in Lagos in order to help children adopt eating behaviour that will promote health and reduce risk of disease.

The workshop placed emphasises on behavioural based nutrition education which encourages specific healthy eating behaviour, such as, eating less fat and sodium and eating more fruit and vegetables.

In her opening speech at the workshop, the Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaja Khadijat Gbolahan Daodu, said that Nestle Healthy Kids Progamme had made significant progress since it was launched  in Lagos in 2011.

She said, “as most of you already know, the programme is aim at raising awareness of the importance of good nutrition and an active lifestyle among school -age children in Nigeria. This is in line with our objective to be the trusted leader in nutrition, healthy and wellness and with our way to do business by creating shared value.”

She noted that regular physical activity and healthy eating habits helped children to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight, which will enable them to become healthy adult.

According to her, as part of the commitment to nutrition, health and wellness, Nestle became the main sponsor of the International Association of Athletics Programme, following a five year global partnership between Nestle and IAAF in January 2012. The partnership was extended to Nigeria in July 2013 with an activation of Kids Athletic Programme in Lagos.

At the workshop, the teachers were taught the skills such as the non-lecture, active learning method and the innovative nutrition education technique.
