The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Novena is a nine-day special prayer for specific purpose in the Catholic Church.

“All prayer warriors and all men of goodwill should pray for the Eagles because Nigeria cannot afford to miss the World cup,” Mark said in Tuesday at the commencement of plenary session.

He said that in addition to hard work and dedication to national service, the Eagles needed God’s assistance to win the match.

“I urge all of you (senators) to commence Novena prayer because we must participate in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil come next year.”

The senate president said the senate and the National Assembly would do the needful to ensure the success of the team.
