Anambra Guber: Godwin Ezeemo Picks PPA Ticket

ezeemoGodwin Ezeemo has been nominated the governorship candidate of the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) for the November 16, 2013 elections in Anambra State. Mr. Ezeemo earlier ran against Dr. Chris Ngige in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election, where the latter emerged winner. Following Ezeemo’s emergence as the PPA flag bearer, scores of APC members in Anambra State yesterday decamped to the PPA. Among those who left the APC include Hon. Patrick Orjiakor, former chairman of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) before the merger that gave birth to APC; Chief John Onyeka, ANPP chairman for Anambra South senatorial zone, and Chief Amaeze Ekweala, ANPP chairman for Anambra Central.

Also included in the list are Mr Obinna Ndife, the state youth leader of former ANPP, all the former ANPP chairmen at the local governments, amongst many others.

Speaking on the reasons why they left the APC, Hon. Pat Orjiakor said that they pulled out of the APC because of the lack of internal democracy and due process in running the party which, according to him, was graphically displayed in the last gubernatorial primaries of the APC in the state.

While receiving the decampees in the state party office in Awka, Anambra State capital, the chairman of PPA in the state, Mr. Kanayo Obidigbo, and other executive members of the party offered the new members a hand of fellowship and promised to absorb and integrate them into the mainstream of the party.

While addressing the new members, Ezeemo advised the old and new members to work together in unity and harmony to ensure that the party wins in the forthcoming governorship elections.

According to Ezeemo, the only way the state can be liberated from the shackles of poverty and insecurity is for Anambra people to make a wise choice in electing a leader who has their interest at heart and has the political will to change the way the state has been run since its creation 22 years ago.

He also used the opportunity to re-present his 5-point agenda to the party members. The provision of steady power supply, job creation through massive industrialisation and development of mechanised agriculture, availability of primary healthcare, improvement in education standard and the provision of rural infrastructure and public utilities, according to him, remain the core objectives of his ambition to govern Anambra State.

While admonishing his supporters and the good people of Anambra to make a wise choice in voting into office a credible leader, he promised to carry everybody along and listen to all shades of opinion in running the state when he eventually becomes the governor.

He therefore implored them to come out en masse to vote on the D-day and insist that their votes are counted.
