The command described the rally as contradiction to “Section 99 of the 2011 Electoral Act which forbids political campaigns 90 days before election”.

Opeyemi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had been in a running battle with some members of the party in Ekiti State over his governorship ambition which they believe is an affront to the position of the national leadership of the party that had endorsed Governor Kayode Fayemi for a second term.

Opeyemi accused the state government of disrupting the rally which he said had emboldened him to continue in his quest to taking over from Fayemi next year.
