The group, which spoke through its coordinator, Mr Tito Zuokumor, said only the guilty would be afraid of EFCC.

“We insist that President Jonathan must ignore the request by the governors that he should stop EFCC from investigating them. This is very sad and a call for end to good governance,” the group said.

According to the group, there was no right time to check corruption, adding that anyone with no skeleton in his cupboard would have nothing to fear over the EFCC.

Another group, the National Vanguard for Democracy and Development (NDVDD),  in a statement by its publicity secretary, Emeka Obinagu, said the governors must clear themselves of EFCC first before Nigerians would take them serious.

Also,  the Movement for Democratic Sustainability (MDS), in a statement by its publicity secretary, Afam Iheanacho, the group said Nigerians must support the president in “building national institutions strong enough to fend off subterfuge blackmails or any form of negative pressure.”

Another group, the Media Network for Transformation (MNT),  in a statement endorsed by its coordinator, Goodluck Ebelo, said the aggrieved governors had abandoned governance in their states and, therefore, asked President Jonathan to wield the big stick against them.
