Two persons were  reportedly killed at Sangana in Brass local government area of Bayelsa State by armed gunmen who kidnapped the mother of a lawmaker in the state House of Assembly.
The victims were identified as the kidnapped woman’s grand children, both of them boys. They were reportedly killed by the invaders bullets. The incident as learnt occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Sources told Sunday Vanguard that the gunmen stormed Sangana at about 12 midnight in a speedboat and embarked on shooting spree causing pandemonium in the community.
“It was as if our community was under enemy attack. The sound of heavy gunfire woke us from our deep sleep. There was commotion everywhere. Some people escaped to neighbouring communities for safety,” a native told Sunday Vanguard.
Though the lawmaker, whose mother was kidnapped, could not be reached for comments, a family source told our correspondent that the gunmen had established contact with him (Abraham) demanding N2million ransom before she could be release.
A concerned native, who spoke anonymously, lamented that the lawmaker representing Brass III, only three days ago, organised a free medical treatment for the people of his constituency where people with eye defects, hernia, and other ailments were treated free. The state police public relations officer, Eguavoen Emokpae, ASP, said he was not aware of the incident but promised to get in touch with the Brass Division to details.
