Fresh oil spill from Eni oil well in Bayelsa

Date:

12 February 2012, Sweetcrude, LAGOS – An environmental group, Environmental Rights Action (ERA), says there is a new spill on an oil well run by Italian firm Eni SpA in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta.
The group said Sunday the spill is happening at a well in Ikebere community in Bayelsa State.
The location, according to the report, is near a pipeline struck by militants last week and close to Chevron Nigeria’s offshore gas rig that remains ablaze after it was hit by fire on January 16.
A spokesman for the Rome-based oil company did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday.
