AWKA- Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka and Xiamen University, China, have developed a programme aimed at promoting the exchange of cultures between both countries.
As part of the programme, a cultural troupe from Xiamen University was at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, during which they performed for three days at Awka and at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Boniface Egboka, said Xiamen University is among many foreign universities that have established linkage programmes with his institution.
According to Egboka, the Chinese Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, established in 2008, has about 700 students studying for certificates and diploma programmes in Chinese Language, while a degree programme has also been approved for the university.
He said some lecturers of Nnamdi Azikiwe University have left for China as part of the exchange programme, adding that one person has already acquired a Ph.D in Chinese Language.
He said: “UNIZIK decided to take the initiative in this ex-change programme because China has become a factor in the world today.
