Girei made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing Newsmen in Yola, Adamawa state. He explained that the APC SEC meeting hastily assembled by Governor Jibrilla Bindow was a “between his cronies as most of the aspirants and statutory delegates were not invited”.

Senator Abubakar Girei has counselled Adams Oshiomhole, APC National Chairman, not to yield to pressure from those demanding indirect primaries. He said indirect primaries will “discredit the President and his campaign against Boko Haram terrorism”.

Girei said this in reaction to the resolution of Adamawa APC stakeholders to have indirect primaries.

Countering them, he said: “Yielding to such pressure will send wrong signal and also rubbish President Muhammadu Buhari’s claims of significant feat against Boko Haram”.

Girei, a governorship aspirant in Adamawa state, condemned in strong terms the position of the state executive committee of the party, for canvassing against direct primaries, saying “the action is that of desperate politicians who have lost touch with the people and an action that contradicts President Muhammadu Buhari’s principle of fairness, Justice and equity”.

He faulted the meeting for hinging it’s clamour for indirect primaries on insecurity, a position that tends to “undermine the laudable achievements of President Muhammdu Buhari in substantially downgrading the Boko Haram insurgency and restoring normalcy to most communities in the North-East”.

Girei made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing Newsmen in Yola, Adamawa state. He explained that the APC SEC meeting hastily assembled by Governor Jibrilla Bindow was a “between his cronies as most of the aspirants and statutory delegates were not invited”.

He described the meeting as a gathering of desperate politicians demanding for indirect primaries because they lacked grassroots credibility.

“Their appeal for indirect primaries in Adamawa State should not be taken seriously because it is against the will of the people and a mischievous misrepresentation of the security situation in the North-East and the state,” he said.

“This is clearly what we have been talking about in the last six to seven months. These are politicians who have lost touch with the electorate and the realities on ground and are not even in touch with the objectives and aspirations of President Mohammadu Buhari.

“Those who hide under the banner of insecurity raise a lot of questions about the possibility of general elections in Adamawa in 2019 or about President Muhammadu Buhari’s success in dealing a dead blow to Boko Haram insurgency in Adamawa and the North-East.

“To my surprise, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and some members of the NWC are guilty of creating the room for indirect primaries; they are working against President Muhammdu Buhari and the national party leadership who are in support of transparency, fairness, equity and justice.

“It is appalling to see the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, a man known for his integrity and honesty, condescending so low to align himself with jibrilla Bindow, to advocate for indirect primaries in Adamawa against the wishes of the people of the state.

Report says that SGF Mustapha altered his stance and join forces with Governor Bindow in return for the chance to succeed him in 2023.
