Leaders of various camps under Phase One of the Presidential Amnesty Programme on Wednesday expressed their willingness to work towards the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 polls.
The chairman of the forum of phase one leaders ex-agitators, Pastor Reuben, , stated this in Abuja after a meeting with the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator, Amnesty Programme, Prof. Charles Dokubo.
At the meeting held with over 30 Phase One leaders of the Niger Delta ex-agitators in attendance, Dokubo solicited their support to ensure Buhari’s re-election in the forthcoming election.
“Mr. President wants to win in our region and the entire country. I need your support in this regard. It was the All Progressive Congress that gave me this position and whatever I can do to support the party and make it win, I will do,” he remarked.
Reacting his appeal, the leader of the group said they are all in total support of Buhari’s second term bid adding that members of his forum were ready to work with the coordinator for enhanced development in the region.
“As far as Amnesty is concerned, we will work with the Prof. Dokubo and as we are working with him directly. When it comes to the 2019 election, it’s God that gives power. When it gets to that point, God will decide that, and the people. Politics is a game of interest, every human being is a political animal as we know; so when the day comes, people out there will vote and people that are with Prof. Dokubo in the amnesty programme, if we look at him today, if he handles things well, God will decide.”
The leadership of the ex-agitators however, requested a meeting with President Buhari to cement the emerging partnership with the Federal Government.
“We the leaders of ex-agitators in the Niger Delta want to meet with Mr. President, more so, as election is drawing near because since he came on board, we have not meet with him.
