The Taraba state police command has admonished persons who took pleasure in confiscating lands from their rightful owners to as a matter of urgency seeks for an alternative means of livelihood or be confronted with the long arm of the law.
Parading before newsmen a suspected land robber, in Jalingo, the state capital the police commissioner, Yakubu Yunana Babas, said the command would not sit back and watch rightful owners of land being dispossess of their landed properties.
The commissioner who made this known through the command Public Relation Officer (PPRO), David Misal, said the suspect (Umar Garba Allasule) specialized in seizing land from persons with genuine land documents.
Citing the way and manner one Alhaji Kabiru Umar was dispossessed of his land by the suspected culprit, the police, according to him would ” soon arraign the suspect before the court as soon as we complete our investigations.”
Sad that the suspect did not only forcefully allocated the said land which is located in Malun village in Arrdo-Kola local government council to himself, but went as far as threatening the life of the rightful owner (Kabiru Umar), the commissioner reiterated the readiness of the command to assist the court with the relevant information on the genuine owners of the land.
While the alleged rightful owner of the said land was said to have produced relevant documents proving ownership, the suspect as made known by the police ” has not been able to prove ownership of the lands.”
Believing that such act is capable of igniting communal clashes in the state, the command, as stated by him, would no longer condoned the activities of land grabbers and land speculators.
He enjoined land buyers to tread legitimate paths so as to prevent them from falling into wrong hands, as such ill activities, is fast becoming the order of the day in the entire axis of the state.
When approached for comment the suspect denied all the allegations leveled against him, affirming that the lands in disputes belong to him adding that ” I have being farming there for several years.”
