A former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode on Monday alleged that the anti-graft agency, EFCC, failed in a plot to arrest his wife and kid.

In a message he distributed, Mr. Fani-Kayode said his wife travelled to Ado-Ekiti to see Governor Ayodele Fayose.

“They were on their way out of town when they went to Access Bank in Ado Ekiti to get some money.

“When they got there, my 8 month old son Aragorn and wife Precious Chikwendu were illegally detained, brutalised and put under arrest on the orders of the EFCC at a bank in Ado Ekiti.”

The controversial former minister said his wife did no wrong and had never been invited by the anti-corruption agency.

“Had it not been for the intervention of Governor Ayo Fayose they would have been taken them away and subjected them to all manner of harm and indignities simply because she is married to me,” he said.

The critic of the Muhammadu Buhari administration said his and his wife’s accounts had been frozen by the EFCC to starve him of funds.

“Now they are resorting to arresting peoples wives and children for no just cause,” he said.

“This is Buhari’s Nigeria and we will resist his wickedness and tyranny.”

He said his family would sue the bank and the EFCC for Monday’s incident.

“They have no right to do this. If they want to see my wife all they need to do is to invite her. We have nothing to fear,” he said.

The EFCC, however, faulted Mr. Fani-Kayode’s claim.

The commission’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, told PREMIUM TIMES that the commission had no officers in Ado-Ekiti and could not have carried out such arrest.

He explained that the Access Bank account from which Mr. Fani-Kayode’s wife attempted to withdraw money had been flagged by the commission long ago. As with any such flagged account, anyone who tries to withdraw money from it is questioned, he explained.

Mr. Uwujaren said this was what the police tried to do with Mr. Fani-Kayode’s wife with the intent to release her on bail after questioning before Governor Fayose’s intervention.
