Barcelona have a pre-agreement in place to sign Palmeiras defender Yerry Mina, the player’s representative Jair Mina has claimed.

Mina’s late equaliser for Colombia in last week’s 2-2 World Cup qualifying draw with Uruguay led to the re-emergence of reports that Barca have a preferential option to purchase him.

Jair Mina, who is also the 22-year-old’s uncle, says the reports are accurate, although he added that a move to the Camp Nou is far from a done deal, with other clubs also monitoring his nephew’s progress.

“Yes, a pre-agreement was signed and there’s the possibility that the kid goes to Barcelona,” he told Radio Caracol. “It’s only a pre-agreement, so there’s still the chance that other teams [make an offer], so [a move to Barca] would depend on circumstances and the desire of the player. Other top European teams are interested.”

The agent also confirmed that he met with Barcelona representatives in Barranquilla last week, where they were present to witness Mina winning his fourth senior international cap.

Mina joined Palmeiras from Colombian club Santa Fe earlier this year and the Brazilian side’s coach, Cuca, admitted at the time that the centre-back’s stay in Sao Paulo was unlikely to be a long one.

Mundo Deportivo reports that in the move which took Mina to Palmeiras there exists a clause which would allow Barca to sign him for €9 million at any point during the next three years.

Sport adds that the Blaugrana wanted to bring Mina in this past summer for their B team, but in the end agreed to leave him to continue his development in Brazil.

Instead, Barca signed Brazilian defender Marlon Santos on loan from Fluminense. The 21-year-old, who featured for the first team in preseason, is a regular presence in Gerard Lopez’s B team.

Barca maintain the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season for around €5m — a deal which would be automatically triggered if he plays five official matches for Luis Enrique’s side.
