Reps clears 3 lawmakers of wrongdoing over alleged sexual misconduct

Nigeria’s House of Representatives Tuesday cleared three lawmakers accused of sexual misconduct in Cleveland, Ohio in the United States of America.

On the recommendation of the committees of ethics, privileges and foreign foreign affairs the lawmakers were cleared of the alleged accusations by the former U.S ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Entwinstle.

“That Hon. Mohammed Garba Gololo, Hon. Mark Terseer Gbillah and Hon. Samuel Ikon are cleared of and exonerated from the allegations levelled against them by the United States Ambassador to Nigeria in his June 9, 2016 letter to the Rt. Hon. Speaker, for want of evidence.

“That in the light of the foregoing, the Hon Minister of Foreign Affairs does engage with the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, with a view to finding a seamless resolution of the domestic fallout of this unfortunate incident as it relates to Hon. Mohammed Garba Gololo, Hon. Mark Terseer Gbillah and Hon. Samuel Ikon;

“That the Ministry of Foreign affairs does write to remind the United States Embassy of the need to always adopt the official channel of communications in its dealings with any organ or institution of government.”

Naija247news understands that solicitation of prostitution is a specific intent crime in the U.S. The Cleveland Police Department has enough evidence that the Nigerian lawmakers made serious attempts to engage in prostitution and solicitation, according to reports in Cleveland.  It is not known if the U.S will press charges, as the U.S visas of the lawmakers months ago was suspended.

In Ohio, it is a crime to solicit a person to engage in sexual activity in exchange for money. (Ohio Rev. Code § 2907.24.)

Prostitution, loitering, and solicitation for sex are punishable by up to 60 days in jail and a fine of up to $5,000 in the state of Ohio.

In the United States, solicitation is a crime, an inchoate offence  that consists of a person offering money or inducing another to commit a crime of sex with the specific intent that the person solicited commit the crime.
