The Campaign for Democracy (CD) Sunday asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to effect the arrest and trial of former President Goodluck Jonathan for alleged corruption while in office.
The National Chairman of CD, Ifeanyi Odili in a statement made available to reporters said the organisation is opposed to the claims by the Presidency and EFCC that there has not been enough evidence to warrant the arrest of the former president.
Odili said there are avalanche of evidences that linked the former president to the criminal diversion of public funds and genocide against Nigerians saying there are enough witnesses by individuals linking the former president to the $2.1billion arms scandal.
According to him, when a name of a person is mentioned as conspirator, connivance in connection to a criminal case, such person will be arrested or invited for interrogation.
His words: “For the EFCC to continue to keep people in detention and prisons, flouting court orders, while the major culprit is allowed to move freely is an act of timidity, cowardice and unwillingness to carry its primary national assignment to the letter.
“It confirms the rumour making the rounds that Buhari had an agreement with Jonathan that he will not probe his government if he Jonathan relinquished power in a free and fair presidential contest.”
