Daniel, who addressed a press conference at his Maryland Krestal Laurel office yesterday, said the prevailing condition in the country does not give room for a change of government, but that instead, President Jonathan requires the full support of Nigerians to continue with the transformation he kick started in his first term in government.

The former governor who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP) vowed that President Jonathan and the PDP would receive the backing of LP in the 2015 polls to return to office, and also assured the people that his party was poised to partner the PDP in Ogun State to beat the incumbent Governor Ibikunle Amosun of All Progressive Congress (APC).

“If we are to rate Jonathan in term of performance compared with his predecessors, he definitely performed better than any president the country has ever had.

“I am working for him because I am looking at the terrain. Right now, within the challenges facing him as president, he is better supported. If anybody has a better option, he should come out with it.

“The president has been the best performing president. It is a matter of perception. There was a time some people said that look OGD, if you tar roads with gold, we are not going to vote for you. It is all depends on people’s perception,” he added.

He said those condemning Jonathan over the insecurity in the country do not understand that Nigeria is currently battling with organised international terrorist organisation, stressing that “it is unfortunate because what we are facing is not just insecurity but terrorism, which is  very dicey.”

He said considering the achievements of the administration in the rebasing of the economy, President Jonathan had exemplified himself as the best option for Nigeria at this point.

But in a spontaneous reaction to the former governor’s statement, the leader of the PDP in Ogun State and Chairman, Organisation and Mobilisation Committee, PDP, South west, Mr. Buruji Kashamu, said Daniel’s ploy was simply to hoodwink the people of the state after dumping the party.

“He has had his time when he ruled the state for eight years and simple discretion would require that he quit the stage, or at best, play the role of an elder statesman. But since he has elected to continually play the spoiler, he should be told in unmistakable terms that so long as he continues to play his divisive politics of promoting LP, he should leave PDP out of his political flirting.

“It is the height of betrayal that someone who rode on the platform of PDP to political prominence would want to undermine the same party because of his own selfish interest and over bloated ego. He wants to be the alpha and omega of any political party he finds himself. That is why he has sidelined the authentic Olabode Simeon-led State Executive Committee of the Labour Party in order to impose his stooges and puppets on the party.

“He has carried on with the same reckless abandon that was his undoing the other in spite of a subsisting court injunction that status quo should be maintained in the dispute that arose over the Labour Party structure. I wager that this is a potential landmine that many have not averred their minds to,” Buruji said
