The Osun Government on Monday said it had committed the sum of N500 million to the monthly payment of pensions.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Mr Semiu Okanlawon, the Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, made this disclosure in a statement he issued in Osogbo.
According to the statement, the sum is outside the sum paid to secondary school pensioners and civil service retirees.
It stated that the alleged delay in the payment of the pensions cannot be divorced from the escalating revenue crisis across the country.
“We need to remind our pensioners that in the face of reduction of revenues by about 40 per cent of what are due to the states, all hands must be on deck to weather the storm,” it stated.
The statement reiterated the commitment of the Gov. Rauf Aregbesola administration to the welfare of workers, including retirees.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government was apparently reacting to the protests by some pensioners on Feb. 4 against the delay in the payment of their pensions.
The government said it had continued to open its financial books to all stakeholders including pensioners with a view to informing them on the reasons for the delay.
“This government has improved the welfare of workers, serving or retired, in spite of the 40 percent revenue shortfall,” it said
