An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2 on Friday sentenced a security guard, Amos Yakubu, 26, to three months in prison for stealing 25 pieces of iron rods.

The Magistrate, Mr Celestine Odoh, sentenced the convict after pleading guilty to the charge.
Odoh gave the convict no option of fine, saying “it will serve as deterrent to others”.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Emmanuel Adikwu, told the court that Mr Okpa Simon of the company reported the case at Maitama Police Station.
Adikwu said that the accused, who was the company security guard, dishonestly stole 25 pieces of iron rod valued at N60,000 belonging to the company.
He said that during investigation, the accused confessed to stealing the rods and sold it for N15,000 to an unknown person in Mpape, Abuja.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Penal Code.
The convict asked the court for forgiveness, saying “ it was the devil’s handwork. I did it because I need money for some personal issues which I cannot tell the court’’.
